Hello students, parents, and fellow teachers,
I’m Justin Burrus, the humble author of this blog. I am currently finishing up my student teaching experience at Coronado High School in Lubbock ISD. This semester, I am teaching 9th grade English under the supervisor of Ms. Loafman. I am definitely learning a lot about students, teaching, and myself.
Before returning to Lubbock to pursue teacher certification at Texas Tech, I taught English for two years in Japan as a member of the Japanese Exchange Teaching (JET) Program. My job was to help Japanese English teachers teach English (the language) to junior high school students. I loved my time in Japan and was inspired to become a professional teacher here in Texas.
At this point in my life I am both a student and a teacher. I am constantly trying new ways to help my students understand and apply language arts skills, like reading and writing. Sometimes my lessons flop and sometimes they work great. Either way, I am constantly learning from my students and hopefully they are learning just as much from me.
In my non-existent free time, I enjoy listening to new music, riding my motorcycle, and running until I’m out of breath –which usually doesn’t take too long).
